Deviance in the workplace

Deviance is any action that goes against the norms. There are some times that deviance is good and many times that deviance is bad. Deviance is everywhere and can be in any part of your life. There are deviants in schools, families, work, sports, and every other group or event. Some people believe that deviance is a bad thing, but deviants also help the in many places. Positive deviants can be inventors, managers, business owners, and researchers. Some negative deviants are underage drinkers and smokers, prostitutes, gamblers, flunkies, dropouts, and speeders.

In the workplace there are many was to be a deviant. Some are good and some are bad. Good deviance can be going above and beyond, whether it is to suck up to the boss or just because they want to. The workers who are labeled as positive deviance do more and better than what are expected of them. People who are positive deviants might show up early or stay back later to de extra work. They may also accept more shifts than necessary, or do jobs that many people try to avoid. Negative deviants in the work place may show up late or leave early. They may push off work on to other employees, call in sick all the time, do all of their work partially, or be distracted when they are supposed to be focusing.
