our art is our reality

Art in itself is a broad topic. Art is defined as an expression of human creative skill and imagination. Art is typically visual like paintings or sculptures, these are supposed to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Art in a non visual form is all of the many forms of music, they are also meant for the entertainment of the audience and to express emotions. Many people do not agree with the art that we have today. Art can be anything from landscaping, the simple beauty of nature, to break dancing and the confusing stuff that is considered as modern art and everything in between. Many people today don’t agree with all of the stuff we have as art. Today art can be a bunch of splatters, or a dingle dot. These may even be worth millions of dollars. We may not really understand it, but it is enjoyable to some people. Even if it is not the art that you enjoy, it is still art and some people enjoy it. The form of art that he is talking about is his rap and hip-hop...

Flat tax or Fair tax?

Currently America uses a progressive tax system. Progressive tax system has people pay different percentages based on how much they make annually. There are different tax brackets that determine what percentage that people of a specific income pay. People are not happy about America’s tax system. The major plans that people think could work instead of a progressive tax, flat tax and fair tax both make claims that they are fairer than the current tax system.  Flat tax puts a single tax rate on all people no matter their income. Wither you make $20,000 a year or $100,000 you would pay the same percentage. People with a higher income will have to pay more, but they are still paying the same percentage. With a flat tax people who make less money pay less money. It is similar to our current tax plan, except it has the same rate. Fair tax does not tax the income of people. With a fair tax you are taxed on what you buy, not what you make. To make sure poor people can make it in the wor...

Deviance in the workplace

Deviance is any action that goes against the norms. There are some times that deviance is good and many times that deviance is bad. Deviance is everywhere and can be in any part of your life. There are deviants in schools, families, work, sports, and every other group or event. Some people believe that deviance is a bad thing, but deviants also help the in many places. Positive deviants can be inventors, managers, business owners, and researchers. Some negative deviants are underage drinkers and smokers, prostitutes, gamblers, flunkies, dropouts, and speeders. In the workplace there are many was to be a deviant. Some are good and some are bad. Good deviance can be going above and beyond, whether it is to suck up to the boss or just because they want to. The workers who are labeled as positive deviance do more and better than what are expected of them. People who are positive deviants might show up early or stay back later to de extra work. They may also accept more shifts than nece...

Gray/ Tyson

I think that neither society failed Freddy and Mike nor did they fail themselves. I think that it is a mixture of them both. Mike Tyson needed to toughen up to live in the neighborhood he did to get ahead; it also got him ahead in life. He did a lot of bad things, but the justice system kept sending him places to reform him. He eventually got to make something out of himself. The bad stuff that Mike did made him who he is today, and he was still able to get money and live a somewhat decent life in the end. He made off of his decisions on his own, society made the bad choices a lot easier, but there were other options. Mike even changed and was very respectful so that he could go to fighting training. We all have difficult choices in our lives, and sometimes it’s the most difficult paths that we need to take. Freddy Gray had a bad life. Things were not easy for him, but they were not easy for anyone where he grew up. Life was against him, but he could have stood up and changed himself....

The Bronx

First articl e    Race This article talks about how racism was a recent thing, and that it was only from the Western world. In the ancient world they believed that some races were better than others, but they believed that they could help the other races to become civilized. They did not believe that they would never be as good; they just thought that they were not raised the right way. It was because of the western world that racism and bigotry became a thing. The western world began to think that people of darker skin had less intelligence, and this made them lesser than the white world. After that began darker skinned people were thought of as slaves, stupid, and below everyone. This ideal was made by westerners in the time that they began to colonize the new world. Mexicans were also thought of as lesser for the skin color they inherited. Not only did major slavery exist in the main world, but western civilization was the cause of a huge genocide. Hitler killed, or tor...

LOTF prompts

1 Not only can we kill our own kind, but we can make them feel like they wish they were dead. Humans are social creatures, so excluding a person from the group can make them wish they were dead. We can also kill someone’s spirit. We are cruel and make fun of people all of the time. We bash them and bring them down with condescending names, harsh words, and disrespect. Not only can we kill physically we can kill a person mentally. We know how to break your spirit, break your mind, and break your body. When your mind and spirit are broken you most likely will wish you were physically dead. 2 We all have a civilized side, and a savage side. It is up to us to choose what side is able to dominate our lives. If you do not consciously choose what sides you will let take over it will be up to your surroundings. If you are surrounded by civilized people, you are more likely to have a stronger civilized side, but if you hang out with a ban, savage crowd, your savage side will have many op...

The Lottery

1.        No, I remember Krueger talking about this and some of the younger kids. The foreshadowing could be how specific he was with the rocks, and how strict the parents seen. He lulls us with how happy and joyful they seem. 2.        In a small village in the past, this would never happen in a big town, or in modern day. Less likely. I would not think a happy little village would attack on of their own like that, 3.         They all show the individuality of humans, they all have their own families and lives. Tessie was loud, and wanted to change the traditions that they have stuck with for a long time. 4.        The beginning shows a happy village, and then it turns out to have this awful and sad tradition. We think of a lottery as a good thing that you want to win, but they have it being an awful, and painful stoning. 5.     ...

BARNGA

This game is extremely frustrating. I always expected this. As soon as he said we were going to play a game silently I knew he was going to give us all different games. I knew it was wrong since he told us the day before. I knew this game so I just stood up for my original rules even if someone wanted to slap me. This made it worse, but I already knew this was going to happen. Yes it is all a game, but we all got so worked up. It would help, but I don’t think we could ever have universal cultural and language, at least not in my lifetime. We all get pissed about things. If we think we are right we stand up for it. It teaches that every culture has different rules and we can’t understand other cultures if you can’t effectively communicate.

sociological mindfulness

I think that I am not the most empathetically person. I can feel empathy, but if I haven’t experienced something close or see the pain that it caused in real life I don’t feel much. I feel bad when I see stuff about mass shootings and stuff, but I can’t begin to understand the pain. I have never understood the pain of that much death. I can only understand pain that is similar to what I have felt, or something that I could understand even a little bit of the pain. I have felt bad when something happens bad to the people around me; like when their pets, parents, or other people that are close to them. Empathy is a very though thing for me to figure out. It is hard to think how another person does, especially if you have never experienced anything even close to what they have experienced in their lives. With sociological mindfulness I have no idea what I think, but I can try. I see myself fitting into the big picture of society as a regular person. I don’t think that I will make a very ...
